Brian Dales, frontman of The Summer Set, is taking some time off from his band of 10-years, The Summer Set, to pursue a solo project. His new project, DALES, has only released one song so far, titled, "Young For The Summer", the singer attempts to pull back from his poppy sound in order to embrace a Classic-Rock vibe. The band played several songs during their set and definitely had a looser, less-rehearsed feel than his prior band. However, I'm not so sure the sound has changed as much as Dales' has implied over the last several days on social media.
Throughout the set, the members of the band interacted with each other and engaged a great deal with the stage, or porch, supplied by the quirky venue, which lead to a decently interesting set. Because DALES is a new project, the fanbase is fairly small and those who were familiar only knew one song, so the energy in the crowd definitely was not up to par with my expectations. There was a disconnect between the band and the audience, maybe because it was a bar show, or it could be due to the fact that the band didn't work the crowd as hard as they could have. Nonetheless, the set was pretty solid and I was surprised by the amount of material that they're playing at such an early stage in their development.
